Nasal Surgery
A rhinoplasty operation can be performed to improve the appearance of the nose. The improvement may involve reshaping the nose by changing the size of the nose, changing the shape of the tip, removing a hump, narrowing the nostrils, or narrowing or widening the bridge of the nose. The extent of surgery will vary, depending on the procedures being performed and whether the nose bones will need to be fractured. Every nose is different and therefore every rhinoplasty operation is different. The first step to determine what procedure is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ver Steeg.
About the Procedure
The surgery usually takes two to three hours and can be performed with local and IV sedation or general anesthesia.
Recovery
You will experience temporary swelling, bruising, stuffiness and headaches. Dr. Ver Steeg will give you a prescription for pain medication after the surgery.
Risks
Risks include infection, bleeding, and incomplete improvement requiring additional surgery. You may return to work or school in seven to ten days, but should limit more strenuous activity for two to four weeks, and must avoid sunburn or hitting the nose for two months or more. Your nose will continue to reshape after the surgery for up to one year. Dr. Ver Steeg will discuss the risks of the procedure with you at the time of your consultation. He will also be sure that both of you understand what the goals of surgery are and what are realistic expectations for the surgery.
