Liposuction

The best way to determine if liposuction is a procedure you desire is to educate yourself about what is expected during and after surgery. Dr. Ver Steeg will discuss all aspects of the procedure during an initial consultation. Make sure you are familiar with the different liposuction techniques, how liposuction is performed, the risks involved, the advantages of each type of liposuction, and what kinds of results you can expect.

Tumescent Liposuction

This technique involves the injection of saline solution (salt-water) and an anesthetic into the fat. Fat is then removed using suction and small metal instruments. This technique has been used for many years.

Recovery

You will go home with a compression garment covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for a few weeks as it helps reduce swelling. You will have some soreness and discomfort after surgery. Dr. Ver Steeg will give you a prescription for a pain medicine. Once pain and soreness decrease, it is frequently more comfortable to wear lycra or spandex exercise pants. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medications. Bruising and swelling usually subside in 2-4 weeks. The final result takes shape over 2-3 months.

Risks of the Procedure

The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual. Dr. Ver Steeg will discuss the risks of the procedure with you at the time of your consultation.
